1 Night Polonnaruwa Ancient Kingdom

Tour Overview

Experience the pinnacle of ancient Sri Lankan stonemasonry and royal grandeur with our 1 Night Polonnaruwa Ancient Kingdom tour. Serving as the island’s second capital city following the fall of Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa is an exceptionally well-preserved UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a fascinating glimpse into the country’s medieval 'Golden Age'. You will comfortably explore this vast ancient city, which features the ruins of the magnificent Royal Palace, beautifully carved council chambers, and massive ancient reservoirs like the 'Parakrama Samudra', built to sustain the kingdom's agriculture. The true masterpiece of Polonnaruwa, however, is the Gal Viharaya—a breathtaking rock shrine where four colossal, incredibly lifelike statues of Lord Buddha have been flawlessly carved out of a single, massive granite rock face. To add a touch of wild adventure to your historical journey, the following day includes a thrilling open-jeep safari in the nearby Minneriya National Park, world-famous for its massive gatherings of wild elephants. This tour brilliantly combines ancient architectural wonders with exhilarating wildlife encounters.
